Winestock™ Wine and Music Festival:
Perfect Oceanfront Vineyard Location
Perfect Oceanfront Vineyard Location
Wine and live band music entertainment in an oceanfront vineyard! What could be more idyllic? Morning Bay's Winestock™ Music and Wine Festival has it all.
Great rock and roll from musicians from The Odds, Coco Love and Wyckham Porteous to Dave Rave, The Furies and Ridley Bent. An all-day wine and music festival by the ocean, Winestock™ Music and Wine Festival is the ultimate festival-lover's event. The live bands start playing at noon. The wine starts to flow soon after.
Wine-tasting tables, food kiosks, arts and craft vendors and sight-seeing in Morning Bay's stunning oceanfront vineyard are all activities that wine and music enthusiasts enjoy during the all-day event. Transportation via BC Ferries and accommodation at various Pender Island resorts and bed and breakfasts make the event a fabulous way to celebrate the last long weekend of the summer.
For four years music and wine fans have found their way to Pender Island and enjoyed some of the best indie rock acts around. Our first year, 2006, featured several acts who have become repeat performers at Winestock™: Dave Rave, formerly of Canada's hottest punk band, "Teenage Head," flew in from New York City. Simon Kendall, formerly keyboardist for "Doug and the Slugs," anchored our house band, the "Morning Bay City Rollers," and perennial folk-rocker Wyckham Porteous dazzled the crowd with his distinctive lyrics and songs. In 2007, veteran bluesman Jim Byrnes headlined the event. In 2008, it was Ridley Bent, whose "hick hop" country music totally rocked the vineyard. In 2009, "Odds," one of the most popular alternative rock bands in BC history headlined a show that featured rainbow and a full moon rising over Plumper Sound. Festival musical directors Barb Reid and Bill Gotts, of Commercial Drive's Dr. Vigari Gallery are busy planning the 2010 event, which will take place on September 4.
As music and wine festivals go, Winestock™ is intimate, alternative, and private. Morning Bay's Plumper Sound Vineyard where the music takes place is wedged between two cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Watch sailboats glide by. Nap under an apple tree in Morning Bay's garden. Stroll through the vineyard tasting grapes of that year's harvest. Enjoy award-winning BC wines from our own terraced vineyard or from some of the Okanagan Valley's finest vineyards. It's a live music and wine festival not to be missed.
