Winestock™ Music & Wine Festival:
Perfect Oceanfront Vineyard Location
Perfect Oceanfront Vineyard Location
The Winestock™ Music & Wine Festival, Morning Bay Vineyard's signature event, returned for its fifth annual show - the best yet.
Morning Bay's Winestock Line-up will Rock Pender Island
Morning Bay Vineyard's 2010 Winestock Music and Wine Festival promises to be the best ever. Tickets go on sale August 1 for the Saturday, September 4 (noon to dusk) event in Morning Bay's oceanfront vineyard on Pender Island.
Leading the program of new acts this year is Juno-Award nominee Carolyn Mark of Victoria. Here is how a New York newspaper described Carolyn's music:
"So authentic in its back porch vibe, it seems to come with its own direct link to Loretta Lynn's '60s heyday - like her heroes, Mark is not afraid to rail against a man too drunk to understand his own f***-ups. Not to say Mark is some kind of saint: Her gigs are known for their off-balance candor and ribald humor as much as the homespun tunes. Go for the music, stay for the dirty jokes."
Listen to Carolyn sing "How can you love a man who drinks white wine?"
We first caught Carolyn's music at the recent benefit concert for the Pender Islands Farmland Acquisition Project and couldn't pass her up. Early k.d. lang comes to mind when we listen to Carolyn's country-punk music. We think you'll love her.
Also returning this year are Winestock regulars, Hamilton's Dave Rave formerly of legendary punk band, Teenage Head and Vancouver singer/songwriter Wyckham Porteous whom Rolling Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham called “Leonard Cohen meets Harry Dean Stanton.” Also perennial favorite Leslie Alexander joins Winestock again with her side-kick, Calgary's Jenny Allen who sings with The Fates.
Pender's own Big House Voodoo Blues Band brings its huge 11-piece sound to our outdoor concert bowl. There is no better venue for this band. Having added a 3-piece horn section, Big House Voodoo fills our valley with music like no one around.
The final piece of the Winestock program will be the headliner. We are in discussions with some very exciting West Coast artists and we're sure this year's program, cheap at $35 per person, will be the ticket of the year on Pender Island.
An oceanfront vineyard concert venue, camping out under the stars, great indie music, great food, and lots of good wine: it's the recipe for a fabulous time, Saturday, September 5 from noon 'til the police shut us down (and then we just turn off the amps).
